Bridal Veil Falls is located up Provo Canyon and features a 600-foot waterfall. The location is also known for massive avalanches in the winter, with some of the bigger ones blowing up and across US-189, a major freeway between Provo and Heber City, Utah. In 1961, the cliff face featured a four-person tram ride up to the Eagles Nest Restaurant. It was called the steepest tram ascent in the world and was perched 1228 feet above the canyon floor. Business at the Eagle’s Nest was inconsistent due to the weather and the dizzying heights required to reach it. Owners then decided to use it solely as a place for receptions and reunions until an avalanche destroyed the tram station in 1996. Bridal Veil is one of the most beautiful places to photograph when the fall colors peak. The “Long exposure” taken during the height of fall colors turns the water into silk.
